Harvested from Mendocino Count, this Zinfandel undergoes a one-year aging process in barrel. First, the wine is aged six months in American oak in order to let the Zinfandel mature and bring out the bright characteristics of the grape. Then, it's aged an additional six months in Bourbon Barrels to add vanilla and smoky notes that bring complexity to the finish on this wine. If freedom from the conventions of winemaking is a Zinfandel aged six months in Bourbon barrels - then freedom must taste like lush black fruit, rich caramel and smoke.
