The evolution of gin as come full circle, as the so-called New Western style has come all the way back to the birthplace of gin: Holland. This Nolet's is no malty-genever style, however. Nolet's has enlisted the services of subtle peach and more-forward rose petal to set themselves apart. The rose is very prominent, and in the end juniper is a distant third player in this 95.2º proof gin. The strength is very well-balanced, never overstrong (and I am tasting it now straight at room temperature). I'm not sure I want this perfumy, modern style in a classic Martini, but in an Aviation it would be transfixingly beautiful. Along with G'Vine, North Shore #6, Hendrick's, this Nolet's is a high-water mark of post-modern, New Western gin. It's terrific.—JE
