Chartogne-Tallet Les Couarres Champagne 2018

The Les Couarres vineyard is situated in the centre of the Merfy terroir, in the least well-draining area of the village. There are two types of subsoil in this plot: Tufa and Clay For these two plots, our labour is more or less the same, with greater useful reserves than the neighbouring plots, and an ability to maintain a level of moisture that avoids water deficiencies for the vines planted in this lieu-dit. While many of the soils in the village dry quickly and allow ploughing soon after the rains, the lieu-dit Les Couarres requires patience. Due to this fact, as well as the plot's topography, these vines are the most susceptible to frost. The yields from this plot are the most generous on the estate and often have to be limited by extensive de-budding and the removal of every second shoot.
