Description:
The grapes for this wine come exclusively from the vineyard planted in 1937 and were spontaneously fermented in a wooden barrel that is over 50 years old. A 70 percent gradient, over 80-year-old Riesling vines and phyllite slate give this wine its special character. As early as 1150, the nuns of Saint Hildegard recognized the potential of this location and planted vines on this extremely demanding steep slope. The Riesling Abtei has wonderful aromas of wild herbs and mineral notes on the nose and palate. A little lemon, grapefruit and flint underline the spicy minerality of this steep-slope Riesling.
