How Much Wine, Beer, and Spirits Do You Need? A typical estimate is 1-2 drinks per hour for most events.

Planning drinks for a large event can feel overwhelming. One of the most common questions we hear at The Party Source is:

“How much alcohol do I need for 100 guests?”

This guide provides a general estimate for a 5-hour event serving beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails. The quantities below are based on typical guest consumption and can help you build a balanced bar without overbuying.

If you'd like personalized recommendations, our Party Planners are always happy to help.

Beer & Hard Seltzer

Beer is often the most popular beverage option at large gatherings. A mix of domestic beer, craft options, and hard seltzers gives guests variety while keeping the bar easy to manage.

This combination provides approximately 240 beers and 72 seltzers, or roughly 2–3 drinks per guest if everyone drinks beer or seltzer.

If you choose not to serve hard seltzer, consider adding additional beer to compensate.

Wine is often served alongside beer and cocktails, particularly at weddings, receptions, and dinner events.
