A top wine of 2021 selected by our wine department. Ribeira Sacra, a “new” old region in Galicia in Spain’s northwest, is a place to know for supple, earthy yet fruit-filled wines like this Mencia. A touch of smoke and mossy earth frame this dizzyingly drinkable red. Red and blue fruit flavors abound with an easy alcohol level and milder tannins. This wine and others from this river-rich and mountainous place act more like a hearty burgundy than say a rich, dark berried red from warmer regions in Spain. Pair with grilled fish, light meats with citric sauces and soft cheeses.
